She focuses on equitable, accessible, and intersectional fundraising, program development, and training that disrupts philanthropic status quo and continues expanding the immigrant voice within philanthropy. She has over 20 years in applied practice centering community using strengths- and equity-based perspectives, consults on diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) initiatives, and is a part-time instructor at the Georgia State University Andrew Young School of Policy Studies where she is a Distinguished Alumna.

Maria has developed programs and led sustainability efforts within nonprofit organizations, reproductive health settings, local government, middle- and high schools, philanthropy, and within the corporate tech space, focusing on intersectional systemic issues impacting immigrants with special emphasis on inclusive civic engagement and health. Her practice and ethos are deeply rooted in values of social justice, power-building, mental health, wellbeing, and building relentless access to the supports and tools individuals and communities need to thrive.

Maria’s personal experience as a formerly undocumented Latina and immigrant childhood arrival provides a unique understanding of the stressors impacting immigrants, the strengths they bring, and co-creates sustainability and programs that effectively center immigrant-community-driven voices, strengths, and solutions.   She is a graduate of Georgia State University and received her Masters of Science Degree in Social Work from Columbia University in the City of New York.
