Citizenship Application Clinics

Who is Eligible to Apply for Citizenship?

To apply for citizenship (or naturalization), you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old at the time of filing N-400, Application for Naturalization

  • Be a permanent resident (have a “Green Card”) for at least 5 years or 3 years if you adjusted through marriage.

  • Show that you have lived for at least 3 months in the state or USCIS district where you apply.

  • Show that you have continuously resided in the United States for at least 5 years or 3 years for spouses of U.S. citizens.

  • Show that you have been physically present in the United States for at least half of the required time period (30 months out of the last 5 years or 18 months out of the last 3 years for spouses of U.S. citizens).

  • Be able to read, write, and speak basic English.

  • Have a basic understanding of U.S. history and government (civics).

  • Be a person of good moral character.

What to Bring to the Clinic

  • Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)

  • Driver’s License

  • Social Security Card

  • All your passports(including expired ones)

  • Marriage certificate and/or divorce decree for all your marriages (if applicable)

  • I-94 Travel History

  • Lifetime Driving History

  • Most Recent Tax Return and/or Evidence of Public Benefits (if applying for a fee waiver or reduction)

In collaboration with community-based organizations, Advancing Justice-Atlanta hosts free immigration legal clinics and/or workshops where participants can learn more about specific immigration relief or benefits and/or receive assistance with completing their immigration applications. Clinics and workshops are based on community partner requests and capacity.

Clinic Types: DACA Renewals, Defensive Asylum, Employment Authorization Renewal, Temporary Protected Status, Legal Screening Clinics

Workshop Types: Asylum, Family-Based Petitions, General Overview of Immigration Legal Pathways or Humanitarian Forms of Relief, Green Card Process, Naturalization, Temporary Protected Status
