Citizenship Application Clinics
Who is Eligible to Apply for Citizenship?
To apply for citizenship (or naturalization), you must:
Be at least 18 years old at the time of filing N-400, Application for Naturalization
Be a permanent resident (have a “Green Card”) for at least 5 years or 3 years if you adjusted through marriage.
Show that you have lived for at least 3 months in the state or USCIS district where you apply.
Show that you have continuously resided in the United States for at least 5 years or 3 years for spouses of U.S. citizens.
Show that you have been physically present in the United States for at least half of the required time period (30 months out of the last 5 years or 18 months out of the last 3 years for spouses of U.S. citizens).
Be able to read, write, and speak basic English.
Have a basic understanding of U.S. history and government (civics).
Be a person of good moral character.
Steps to Join Our Citizenship Application Clinic

Lawful permanent residents interested in applying for naturalization must register to receive assistance through the clinic.

After registration, a staff member or volunteer will verify your naturalization and clinic eligibility over the phone. All information collected is confidential.

If you are eligible for naturalization and for our clinic, you will be directed to complete the citizenship application online.

A fee waiver or reduction may be available to you. Eligibility is primarily based on your household income or if you receive certain public benefits. A staff member or volunteer will screen you for eligibility and help eligible applicants prepare the application (if applicable).

After completing the citizenship application, you will meet with a staff immigration advocate to review the application in person during the clinic. We will provide filing instructions and civics study materials at your appointment.

Driver’s License
Social Security Card
All your passports(including expired ones)
Marriage certificate and/or divorce decree for all your marriages (if applicable)
I-94 Travel History
Lifetime Driving History
Most Recent Tax Return and/or Evidence of Public Benefits (if applying for a fee waiver or reduction)

In collaboration with community-based organizations, Advancing Justice-Atlanta hosts free immigration legal clinics and/or workshops where participants can learn more about specific immigration relief or benefits and/or receive assistance with completing their immigration applications. Clinics and workshops are based on community partner requests and capacity.
