Legal Services

Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta’s legal services department provides comprehensive, high-quality direct immigration legal services to immigrants in Georgia. Our multilingual team assists low-income immigrants in obtaining lawful status, becoming citizens, and defending against deportation. We also seek to empower immigrants through free immigration legal workshops and community education programs.

Immigration Legal Services

We provide direct representation before the Immigration Court, Board of Immigration Appeals, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and other immigration agencies. Our services include:

  • Naturalization and citizenship

  • Applications for and related to Lawful Permanent Residence

  • Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Renewals

  • Removal defense for detained and non-detained individuals

  • Requesting release from immigration detention through bond, parole, or other advocacy

  • Humanitarian protections such as Asylum, VAWA, U-Visas, and T-Visas

Fees for our legal services are assessed on a sliding scale based on household income. We screen all clients to determine eligibility for fee waivers. Certain humanitarian forms of relief and removal defense are free of charge.

  • Citizenship Application Clinics

In partnership with local community-based organizations, Advancing Justice-Atlanta hosts free citizenship application workshops throughout the year. Our staff and volunteers evaluate eligibility for citizenship and provide application assistance.

  • Immigration Legal Clinics & Community Education

In collaboration with community-based organizations, Advancing Justice-Atlanta hosts free immigration legal clinics and/or community education programs. Clinic participants have the opportunity to consult with an immigration attorney to assess their eligibility for any immigration relief or benefits and/or receive assistance with completing their immigration application.

  • Know Your Rights

Advancing Justice-Atlanta provides resources for community members to better understand their legal rights related to immigration and law enforcement. In collaboration with community-based organizations, we provide free Know Your Rights workshops in a variety of languages, including Korean, Vietnamese, and Spanish.
