Marilyn Tom

Chief Operating Officer

Marilyn’s passion for lifting the voices of underrepresented and underserved AANHPI and AMEMSA communities in Georgia is rooted in her family’s experiences as first-generation Chinese immigrants to Canada. Marilyn is thrilled to serve as Advancing Justice-Atlanta’s Chief Operating Officer (previously Deputy Director), overseeing and optimizing the operational functions of the organization including staff engagement, human resources, event management, office management, and organizational process efficiency.

Marilyn’s professional expertise is in strategy development/execution, operational excellence, and collaborative problem-solving, directly leading large-scale private sector organizations and not-for-profit organizations, most recently with CARE USA. Marilyn holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from Georgia State University, dual international MBAs from Georgia State University and the University of Paris I (Sorbonne), a B.Sc. (Honors) in Mathematical Sciences (Computers) and Neuroscience from the University of Toronto, and certifications as a Prosci Certified Change Practitioner, Project Management Professional (PMP), and Six Sigma Black Belt.

Marilyn is grateful to be a resident of Gwinnett County, home to the largest Asian community in Georgia, and at a time when the South is experiencing its fastest Asian population growth ever. Outside of work, Marilyn enjoys the outdoors (cycling/hiking/kayaking), exploring new destinations (most recently Uruguay), attending live theater/concerts, and following the grand slam tennis tournaments around the world (especially the US Open).
