Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta Presents First Ever Halal Korean BBQ Night in Georgia

A culinary event benefiting Advancing Justice-Atlanta and celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Atlanta, Georgia, May 1, 2018 — Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta is proud to present, in honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, SouthEATS 2018 | Halal Korean BBQ Night on Tuesday, May 9, 2018 from 6-10:30PM at Breakers Korean BBQ in Duluth. Advancing Justice - Atlanta is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the civil, social and economic rights of Asian-American and AMEMSA communities through public policy, legal services, impact litigation and civic engagement.

SouthEATS is Advancing Justice-Atlanta’s annual culinary event featuring restaurants and chefs of Asian-American descent. This Year, Advancing Justice - Atlanta is showcasing Korean BBQ with a twist. In an attempt to cater to Muslim Americans who eat only Halal meat, the event will offer a one night opportunity to try Halal Korean BBQ while educating the larger community about Muslim traditions. In Georgia, a large percentage of Asian Americans are part of the Muslim faith, and many restaurants now offer Halal meat.

“Atlanta is home to immigrants and people of color from many different backgrounds and at Advancing Justice - Atlanta, we pride ourselves on bringing communities together for shared meals and experiences,” said Stephanie Cho, Executive Director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta. “As we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month, we celebrate the diverse and growing Asian American population in Georgia while raising funds to support our organization's work to defend and protect immigrants from all backgrounds."

This event is one night only. Individual tickets to SouthEATS are available for $100 at
southeats2018.eventbrite.com; no tickets will be sold at the door. All proceeds from the event will benefit Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta.
